Keith Talking Video

I forgot to post this video. It's from our Kankakee trip at Kevin's dad's house. Kevin was pushing Keith on a big swing, and suddenly Keith started rambling all of the words he knew. It was so cute!

Blizzard of 2009

Pretty much any time snow comes from the south, MD will get hit. This time was no different as we got hit with about 24 inches of snow! We haven't seen this much snow since 2003. I have a feeling 2009-2010 winter is going to be a rough one!
Keith was a little interested in the snow until he found out it was very cold to stand in! He had fun being pulled in the sled for a bit. I think we lasted a whole 10 minutes outside!

Bye Bye RSV, hello potty!

I've never been one to believe in "instant" cures, but I do believe in miracles. Keith is miraculously feeling SO much better, it's unbelievable. The doctor said he could feel sick for weeks, but after just a few days he is feeling so much better. He's more himself.
This afternoon I asked him if needed to potty and he told me yes, and actually peed on the potty! I was floored. I couldn't believe he done this. We had been trying to associate him with the potty, but he was never interested, moreso scared of it I think.
I was so proud of him, and you could tell he was proud of himself!
So it looks like we have started the adventures in potty training. We'll see how fast we can accomplish this!

Since Keith was feeling alot better last evening, we decided to conquer our Christmas tree, which Keith calls the "ho ho tree".

He was so careful decorating! When we started pulling decorations out of the bin, he found the famous "ho ho" hat and he put it on his head. He than began saying "ho ho ho" in a deep voice over and over while he decorated so neatly. It was really cute!

The finished product!

He's still sleeping in daddy's chair for a few more nights until he isn't so congested. He had to sleep with the ho ho hat on tonight. Tree decorating his hard work!

Keith's Scare with RSV

Keith hasn't been feeling very well the last few days. He's had an up and down fever, and just not himself. Not eating much either. So on Monday we decided to take him into see the doctor as a precaution. Call it maternal instincts. We were a little surprised to find out that he has RSV as well as a double ear infection. Monday evening he required oxygen via a nasal canula. He just couldn't keep his oxygen levels up. It was very scary. On Tuesday, I called his doctor to let her know that he had required oxygen and she advised that if it happened again that night, that we would need to bring him into the Univ as soon as possible. RSV can turn fatal fairly fast, and she was afraid that would happen. She didn't want to see Keith to get into a bad situation with his trach being newly removed. We were on pins and needles waiting to see what would happen that night. Doctor told us to try to let him sleep sitting up and see if that helped his oxygen levels. So for the next few nights, Keith slept in daddy's recliner chair next to mommy on the couch, and magically that worked! We were also running albuterol nebulizers every 4 hours to get him through it. He also required oral steroids, which I swear is a God send.
We had to take him back to the doc today and she said he sounded a lot better! We were relieved to hear that.
We will continue to let him sleep in daddy's chair until he is feeling better. We wanted to put up our tree, but have been holding off until Keith can participate with us.

Santa in our complex!

For nights, and I mean literally NIGHTS of waiting, finally Santa came on the fire truck! For the last week, we've been running outside every time we heard a fire truck near by, thinking it was Santa! It was so sad to come in every evening with Keith in tears because Santa didn't show up after we had darted outside to wait! Our neighbor even drove to track him down a few nights to see which community he was actually in because he always sounded so close. Our waiting paid off, because finally he showed up!

Keith wasn't feeling 100% well this evening (and for a few days) but he was so excited when he seen that Santa was on a "woo woo" truck as he calls fire trucks (and ambulances). He thinks they are so cool. This year he really sorta understands Santa, so that's been a big thing that Santa was with his favorite type of vehicle!

It was also neat because the paramedics were handing out candy-canes and remembered Keith from all of the times they've had to come see us for 9-1-1 calls! They remembered his finger-accident that we had over the summer. It was nice to be able to show them that the finger had "grown" back and you couldn't even tell at all what had happened. I'm sure things like that really inspire the paramedics and firemen. Keith was even given "special" treatment and was able to get up in the sled with Santa. He was so happy!

Skating...or not

Keith was invited to Cade's 6th birthday party (yes 6... I can't believe the boy is six already!). The party was at an ice-skating ring. Kevin and I had no idea how this would go over for Keith, but we wanted him to be involved and have fun. Keith was all about getting the skates on his feet, and all for walking all over with them--- but wanted NO parts of getting on the ice! He tried for all of 5 minutes and then hung with mommy on the side-lines as we watched Daddy go round and round. I never did catch him falling on camera, but he admitted to falling atleast 3 times. haha!
